Stoker C/KX 94289 HMS Glorious Royal Navy Died 9 June 1940 aged 22 Remembered on Ash War Memorial Remembered on the Chatham Naval Memorial. Remembered on the Memorial to the Men of Ash Vale in St Mary’s Church Dennis was the son of Alfred and Ethel Kate Paige. Ethel Paige remarried in 1925, and her new husband was George Coles. Dennis's younger half brother Leslie Coles was killed in 1943. Dennis and Leslie were admitted to Heathcote School on 26 September 1932 and had previously attended a school in Hale. Dennis’s date of birth was 2 Nov 1918.

Ordinary Seaman P/JX 428132 HMS Hythe Royal Navy Died Monday 11 October 1943 aged 18 Remembered on Ash War Memorial Remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial Remembered on the Memorial to the Men of Ash Vale in St Mary’s Church Leslie was the son of George A and Ethel Kate Coles of Ash Vale. Leslie's older half brother Dennis George Paige had been killed in 1940. Dennis and Leslie were admitted to Heathcote School on 26 September 1932 and had previously attended a school in Hale. Leslie’s date of birth was 4 May 1925. Ethel Kate Coles is recorded as living at 1 Wharf Road in the 1939 electoral register. Mrs Coles worked for Tolley family, cleaning, cooking lunch and looking after baby Richard, whilst Mrs Tolley ran the garage and her husband was away in the Army in North Africa and Italy.
