Leading Airman FAA/SFX 3445 HMS Landrail Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm) Died 17 November 1943 aged 20 Remembered on Ash War Memorial Remembered on the Lee-on-Solent Memorial Remembered on the Memorial to the Men of Ash Vale in St Mary’s Church Walter was the son of Edward James and Annie Murray of Ash Vale. Before the war Walter had been a Police Messenger / Clerk working for Hampshire Constabulary. Electoral registers record that the family lived in Eynsford Lodge in Chandler’s Road in 1927 and at 2 Council Houses in Frimley Road 1928-1939 (now 2 Homeleigh Villas). Walter’s mother wrote to Ash Parish Council in 1951. By then she was Mrs A Fairchild of 3 Woollards Road. (Mrs Murray married Alfred J Fairchild in 1949.) |
