John Blackler was born 23 February 1895 in Paddington, the son of Roger and Georgina. The 1911 census records that John and his father were barbers, and the family lived at 14 Sandford Road Aldershot.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records that Roger and Georgina Blackler lived at 25 Grosvenor Road Aldershot. Roger lived at Devon House Ash Street when he died in 1938.
