Private G/37880 1st Battalion The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment) Francis was born in Reading, the son of Frederick and Mary Baker. The 1901 census records that Francis was an apprentice printer’s compositor and living with his parents and siblings in Reading. In 1911 he was living in St George’s Road Aldershot and working as a printer’s compositor. Soldiers Died records that he lived at Tongham and had enlisted at Farnham. The Surrey and Hants News 12 April 1917 reported that he had enlisted the previous May and been out about three months when he died of heart failure. He left a widow and child living in Grange Lane. |
